THE ADELAIDE SET.

THE HIGHWAY HOTEL

The Highway is one of Adelaide’s most finest destinations to enjoy an extensive range of opulent foods, delightful entertainment and refreshingly enjoyable beverages. Situated along the Anzac Highway it is hard to miss and well worth a visit!

The Highway is separated into five separate areas, with a bistro, deck bar, function rooms, gaming room, and lounge bar this venue is suited to all individuals, at all ages and ready to meet the needs and preferences of all customers/consumers.

The Highway’s Bistro is a delightful area that allows individuals to indulge in mouth watering foods that can be paired with the perfect wine. The bistro staff have extensive knowledge on food, wine, and entertainment; with the food at the perfect aromas, textures and tastes and the wines at the perfect temperate you will not be disappointed. The Highway’s Deck bar has been crowned by AHA with Australia’s Best Outdoor Area. Sails sweep architecturally across the bar to ensure you are protected from the elements, ceramic and gas heating are in abundance with a large LED screen to ensure you are comfortable and entertained. The highway’s Deck bar is constantly updated with the most popular and new cocktails, spirits, liqueurs, wines and even food options. The Highway’s function facilities can accommodate an extensive range of functions and events ranging from intimate private dinners, to cocktail-style birthday celebrations, corporate seminars and launches, wedding receptions, and large-scale festivals. With the space to accommodate up to 200 people seated, or 400 standing there is basically nothing the Highway Function rooms cannot facilitate.

The Highway’s Gaming rooms are attended to exceptionally well to make patrons feel more like guests. Gourmet beverages and refreshments are offered continuously throughout the gaming area. Cleanliness is something that the staff at the Highway take seriously, they work exceptionally hard to ensure all patrons of the gaming room enjoy their time in a friendly, safe and clean environment.

The lounge bar is a place that members of The Adelaide Set were lucky enough to experience at the ‘Mushroom Month’ function. From a first hand perspective I can ensure you that the lounge bar is a place that can offer you an abundance of different beverages, and a gourmet list of fine foods, and all in a vibrant and entertaining environment. The Highway’s ‘Mushroom Month’ was an exceptional example of how they operate. Mushrooms were used exquisitely in each tasting course, including desert!

The two entree tastings of Field Mushroom soup and King Brown salad were exceptional. The soup was light and delicate on the tongue, fried shallots added as a garnish for an unexpected texture to accompany the softness of soup. The King Brown salad was a delightful salad of many different tastes and textures. The hazelnut toped onto the braised mushroom gave a pleasing texture and the combination of tastes creating an aromatic and exceptional entree.

The three main tastings of wild porcini gnocchi, shimejji and confit duck leg and the portobello burger were devilishly moorish. The gnocchi was pan seared which created a delicately crunchy texture, this accompanied the texture of the pan seared mushrooms perfectly. The cream sauce was exceptional with the perfect level of density, creaminess, and strength. The Portobello mushroom was an absolute treat, with a generous layer of gourmet cheese and a thick deep fried onion ring, the flavours were exceptional. The shimejji and confit duck leg was cooked perfectly with the meat beautifully tender and the mushrooms lightly crunchy.

The dessert tasting of button mushroom and chocolate espresso cake was surprisingly luscious. The button mushroom and chocolate espresso cakes were accompanied by a delicate meringue dome and ice-cream dollop. The smooth, thick texture of the chocolate and button mushroom espresso cake was complimented by the soft ice-cream.

The main dining area is a vibrant area that is full of delicious aromas.  This is the section of the Highway Inn that two of the Adelaide Set Members experienced the Chilli for Charity menu. The menu comprised of a three-course meal. For Entrée we were apportioned with a tasting of the Beef, Bean and Chilli Soup and the Chilli Octopus. The flavors were delicate and very peculiar when compared to traditional Entrée’s, for a Chilli enthusiast these tasting may have been slightly unsatisfying as the Chilli was insubstantial.

The three main dishes included the Szechuan Pepper Braised Pork ribs, the Korean Chilli Rubbed Chicken, and the Burning Beef Burger. Each dish had undeniably exquisite flavors. However, the favored dish seemed to be the renowned burger. For Chilli lovers, I would recommend the optional ghost Chilli, as once again the burning sensation and Chilli flavor was scarce.

The dessert ended the night with a bang. The Chilli Chocolate Fondant was crafted to ensure customers walked away crazing more. The Chilli flavor was evident throughout the delectable dessert, the toffee Chilli almonds offered a new texture and the candied whole Chilli gave an enticing twist.

Whether it’s a family affaire, a night out, an entertaining time with friends or a function The Highway will not disappoint!
