Mary's Poppin

Mary’s Poppin is a brand new bar that has opened its lovely doors to the Adelaide public as of last Friday (April 13) and it has taken no time in becoming the hot topic of the week!

When I accepted the invite to attend the VIP media launch on behalf of The Adelaide Set, I had absolutely no idea what I would be walking into. But, I was intrigued and excited to see what was awaiting me behind the doors of this mystery venue. All I knew was that there was a new bar launch happening where the Apple Bar resides. And that’s it.

So, I don’t know how to explain it, but you can simply imagine the sheer sense of happiness that I felt upon discovering that Mary’s Poppin was going to take Adelaide’s nightlife and club scene by storm. Coming up as the second gay bar in Adelaide after Mars Bar, Mary’s Poppin is set to revolutionize the way the LGBT community parties on weekends.

As part of a VIP Media launch, we were welcomed with some seriously enticing-looking shots and crystal classy glasses of wine to start off the night. The space itself may look small, but it was so well designed that I forgot about how Mary’s Poppin resides on the upper floor to Apple Bar, instead of being a standalone bar! Adorned with posters of sassy and favourite icons such as Beyonce and Madonna, this bar is all about the glitz, the glamour, and the gorgeous!

I loved how the DJ booth was a vintage and beautiful-looking baby grand piano and the music that the DJ was playing was upbeat, very appealing to the socializing crowd, and simply dance-tastic! The chandelier that was ceiling-to-floor size was the main eye-catcher that brought life to the rest of the bar. There are also talks of having a ‘selfie room’ and the installation of giant, disco balls in the bathroom so that you have the perfect lighting for all those selfie-worthy shots with your BFFs.

The location of this brand-spanking-new cocktail bar in the East End also means that it will be able to attract a generous outpouring of the party crowd and generate a lot more interest with their extravagant party scene and drag shows (which, as we all know, is always a fantastic experience to witness)!

Considering how the opening night was a huge success, I don’t think Mary’s Poppin is going to have any difficulty in becoming one of the top go-to spots in the CBD on the weekend from now on! And have you heard – with Anzac Day fast approaching, they’re throwing a Spice Girls themed party on Sunday (April 24)! If I were you, I’d jump on that straight away and pencil it into my diary as the event to look forward to in the next fortnight!
